We hand-line our envelopes with acid-free papers that add a spark of color to a set. Depending on the design and your colors, you can choose from use our Italian Grace papers that add a subtle sparkle, or the muted yet rich Sophia papers from Germany, our our vibrant Stella papers. If you're looking for something even more luxurious, we can recommend a range of handmade Japanese papers, including papers still made using 1,000 year old traditional papermaking methods.
When lining envelopes, we recommend adding an inner envelope and lining the unprinted invitation envelope (inner envelope). This keeps the lined envelope from being ripped open and allows your guests to fully appreciate the lining’s fine paper.
Please note that the colors below are approximations, as digital colors vary depending on your screen settings. If you're interested in lined envelopes, let us know what colors and papers you love when placing your sample order, and we'll send you lining samples.
These lining papers, made from a glittery Italian paper, are the embodiment of Italian style. They're smooth in texture and infused with a subtle sparkle.
These German-made lining papers add a sophisticated wash of gentle color to a set. They have a subtle handmade texture, a luxurious feel, and are available in a range of muted, elegant hues.
We're ecstatic to offer a selection of luxurious Japanese lining papers to complete your set--including our favorites, the Chiyogami papers, hand-silkscreened in Japan, often in 4, 5 or 6 vividly rich colors.
Though all Japanese papers have their own elaborate personality, the Chiyogami papers in particular are drop-jaw gorgeous, stunning enough to frame, and offer the perfect compliment to letterpress. Like letterpress, the Chiyogami-making process is hundreds of years old. Originally, papermakers based their Chiyogami designs on the bright kimonos seen on fashionable wealthy ladies in the cities. The still painstakingly beautiful process of Chiyogami reminds us of how we print, where--through traditional processes--artisans create functional works of art. Unfortunately, some Chiyogami-like papers sold in stationary and art stores these days are now mass produced via offset printing, but you'll know the real thing when you see it, thanks to the hand-silkscreened paper's texture, vibrancy, and beauty. Because of the hand-process involved, colors may vary slightly from the samples.
Let us know when placing your sample order if you're interested in seeing Chiyogami or other Japanese paper samples in a particular color or pattern. More paper colors and textures are available than what's pictured below. If you're a paper connoisseur and want the ultimate in choice for your lining papers, we can arrange to have a wide variety of Japanese paper samples (in particular colors or textures) sent to you from our paper importer for $25.
